Sous-espèces *selon : Clements 2019 & IOC 11.1 :
P. c. chloronotus : Himalaya au Pakistan jusqu'au sud-est du Tibet, nord-est de l'Inde et centre-sud de la Chine ;
P. c. simlaensis : nord-ouest de l'Himalaya (Afghanistan jusqu'à l'ouest du Népal).

Habitat : En nidification : forêt tempérée. Hors nidification : forêt tropicale et subtropicale sèche.
