Prevent Your Cat From Killing Small Animals

This project is directed to all cat owners whose animal goes out hunting, and regularly comes back with little birds, mice or other prey.

Every year billions of little animals are killed by domestic cats !

Hunger is not the reason for these killings, and many cats don't bother to eat their prey, they just bring them back home, sometimes even drop it before us, as if they wanted to offer us a gift !

Reality is that these cats, like their bigger feline cousins in the wild, lynx, leopards, etc. they are born hunters, predators.

Even when well fed, even with good company and games, their instinct leads them to leave their home and go out to hunt and kill small animals.

It's in their nature. Their sense of smell, their sight, their claws, their muscles, everything is made for hunting !

Hard to blame them, when you know that in our history, cats were adopted for these capacities ! It's because of his capabilities as a predator that the cat joined humans a few thousands of years BC, in the middle-east : farmers stored grain in silos made of clay to survive until the next harvest, and those grain stocks attracted mice and rats that destroyed the food.

It's at this point of history that wild cats and humans became friends, naturally, both with their own reasons, and the association grew stronger with the time, to the point that after mice and rats disappeared from the humans' house, cats were still welcome, humans providing for food and water.

So what's the solution ? The easiest way is to not let your cat out, but that's not always practical or possible to keep all windows and doors closed, mostly during spring and summer, the most dangerous seasons for young birds !

This collar is not intended to transform your cat, or to prevent him from playing outside, but only to cut the number of prey victims of his games.

This fundraising campaign is aimed at all cat owners who are sad to see so many birds and little animals killed by their kitty, but also towards all those who are environmentally aware, those who love nature and life.

Some aspects of this project are challenging. The collar needs to be light and small, while including a battery powerful enough to send a strong signal to alert hunted animals from some meters away, and without being a nuisance for the cat or humans, not to speak about quality, water resistance, etc.

It's up to you now to participate and help us to launch this project !

February 2002 : publication of the first article on world domestic cats predation on little animals

October 2002 : article about means and systems to prevent cats predation

May 2005 : email to Brigitte Bardot Fundation to launch a study about the efficacity of these systems, no positive answer

middle 2013 : we get the first emails from cat owners interested in anti-hunt systems for cats, but the systems described are no longer on the market

July 2015 : start of the Smart Cat Collar idea and publication of a few classified ads and on job boards, volunteers for a PR campaign on social medias and engineers interested in the project

September 2015 : without any volunteers, we feel a crowd funding campaign could give more weigth to the project and allow to hire students

October 2015 : start of the RocketHub campaign...

October 2015 : after 1 week, no donations, but 3 messages for advertisement who offer to aggressively promote your project.

October 2015 : opened a twitter account, but it has been BANNED after 2 tweets ! Incredible ! We didn't posted more than every 2 days, that's hardly SPAM ! ? The worse of it is that they do NOT tell you that your messages do NOT appear in the search ! What a waste of time ! Internet is controlled by a few select entities, and it looks like they don't want to see newcomers emerge... anyway, re-opened a new account and trying now to not repeat the same message ?

November 2015 : first and only answer to our ad for a part time volunteer, sadly we couldn't hire anybody without any funding...

December 2015 : end of the RocketHub campaign, without any donation.

2016-2019 : still posting some tweets and messages to get the word out...

June 2019 : Thanks Debby for the corrections and donation !
